![]() While this is not a major safety issue for the H3, the large plastic piece does pose a threat for those driving behind the H3. The problem is a result of plastic clips breaking off the underside of the hood which can lead to the louver (visible toward the front, top edge of the hood in the picture above) rattling loose and breaking other clips until the whole piece flies off hood most likely at highway speeds. The problem with the hoods on the H3 is the plastic louvers, meant to mimic the hood of the original H1, can separate from the vehicle and become airborne. Not all years of the HUMMER H3 apply to the recall as the H3's first model year, 2005, is not listed, and it also doesn't specify if the recall applies to both the H3 SUV and the H3T pickup truck although this is most likely the case since both body styles feature identical hoods. According to the recall listed on National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Web site, this problem affects a little more than 162,000 H3s dating back to its second year on the market. General Motors may be in the midst of winding down its rugged Hummer brand, but it isn't ignoring the safety of its vehicles as it is issuing a recall on certain Hummer H3 models ranging from 2006 through 2010.
